Nukiuchi (抜き打ち)

Japanese idiomatic sentences #13 with sword

 

“Nukiuchi” idiom comes from the samurai sword technique in which he suddenly draws his sword from the scabbarn and slashes an opponent in the same movement.  So, in short it means “surprise, unannounced, without advance notice” and etc. in English.
